Richmond Cascade Temporary Shoring Project

Calgary, Alberta

Bauer Foundations Canada Inc. was contracted in 2021 by Newgen Homes Inc. to install a temporary shoring wall for a new residential apartment building in Calgary, Alberta.

The Bauer team was responsible for design, procurement, and installation of a combination of secant and reinforced king piles, timber lagging and tie-back anchors as temporary shoring for the construction of a new residential apartment building. Based on experience in the area and the expected soil conditions Bauer provided an economized design and executed drilling using a BG40 and KLEMM 806 drilling rigs.

Bauer installed 44x 880mm dia. Secant piles to an average depth of 5 metres, 40x 750mm dia. King piles to an average depth of 5 metres, 34x 152mm diameter tie-back anchors to an average depth of 13 metres and approximately 755m2 timber lagging.

The soil conditions were overburden soils consisting of clay and clay till. Ground water was not encountered allowing all of the boreholes to be completed without using temporary casings.

The project was completed on time, safely and within budget.
