Starlight Pump Station

Calgary, Alberta

BAUER Foundations Canada Inc. was contracted in 2020 by Graham Construction to install permanent ground anchors for a pump station in a new residential development in Calgary, Alberta. The Bauer Team was responsible for design, procurement, installation, performance testing and post tensioning of the permanent ground anchors.

Based on experience in the area and the expected soil conditions Bauer provided an economized design and executed drilling using the open hole air rotary methodology.

Bauer utilized one KLEMM 806 drilling rig to install the 120x152 mm diameter ground anchors to an average depth of 9 meter. Various diameter Dywidag (DSI) central reinforcing bars were installed with dual corrosion protection and trumpeted bearing plates to enable post tensioning against the foundation slab of the structure.

The soil condition was mudstone (bedrock) the entire length of the boreholes. Fractured rock and ground water was encountered at varying levels throughout the boreholes and across the project site.

The project was completed on time, safely and within budget.
